All stakeholders in higher education—students, faculty, administrators and trustees—need the skills, behaviors, and knowledge to lead a diverse nation. This session will overview a three-point strategy for saturating our institutions of higher education with diversity competence and infusing diversity into the post-secondary curriculum. Competency for all stakeholders will be addressed, and real-life examples of diversity success and failure in higher ed will be discussed.

ALISON AKANT, Principal

Alison Akant is the Principal of Diversity Research, a company she founded in 2006 to keep diversity professionals informed on the latest news, trends, and thought leadership in diversity and inclusion. Alison's quarterly newsletter, Diversity in the News, is read by diversity committee members, directors of diversity, and attorneys.

Diversity Research offers support to professionals with briefing papers, research design, and materials for workshops and seminars. Alison presents learning pro-grams at law firms and corporations, and she offers policy and strategy consulting in diversity and community relations. In partnership with Robert McDowall of maconnage.com, Alison is developing Diverse+Inclusive.com, a cutting-edge internet application for online diversity learning and systems management.

Alison is a graduate of Wellesley College and the Columbus School of Law at Catholic University of America, where she was the Note Editor of the Law Review. She also holds a Masters degree in Education from New York University. Alison's current projects include consulting to a political campaign on women's and diversity issues, study design, and development of workshop topics for the American Bar Association’s 2009 Summit on Diversity in the Legal Profession.
